Department Overview & Philosophy

The Department of Pediatric Nursing at Hita College of Nursing is committed to training nursing students competently in Child Health care settings. The Child Health Lab offers facilities to practice and learn a wide range of Child Health nursing skills in a safe environment.

The department is currently placed on the ground floor of the college, housing an expansive Child Health lab. The lab promotes safe and effective practice by demonstrating and reinforcing the highest level of clinical performance and readiness.

Department Vision

The vision of our department at Hita College of Nursing is to be a universal leader in innovations, research, education, attitude, and practice to create positive changes in Child Health care settings and better outcomes by training nursing students competently. Child Health Lab will be a focus of excellent training and practice for Child Health newborn care assessment, education, counseling, and research.

  • To fulfil our vision, we are catalysts for optimizing Child Health care through nurse-led health care by integrating education, application, research, and technology to create innovative solutions and to prepare nurses for global Child Health nursing care to improve health for all.

Key Learning Goals & Specific Objectives

Students enrolled in this department achieve rigorous clinical competencies:

  • Reinforce learning through practicing Child Health procedures in safe simulated clinical environments.
  • Provide hands-on training experiences specific to course objectives as directed by the nursing curriculum.
  • Prepare educational materials for awareness creation among people in the hospital and community.
  • Prepare nursing students thoroughly before their introduction to actual hospital pediatric ward training.
  • Offer independent student learning opportunities and promote evidence-based nursing practice through novel research applications.

Laboratory Infrastructure & Equipment

The Child Health Lab is equipped with pediatric resuscitation manikins, radiant warmers, phototherapy units, infant weighing scales, nebulizers, feeding simulation models, pediatric IV training arms, and growth assessment charts. Students master infant CPR, developmental milestone screening, pediatric drug dosage calculations, and parental counseling.

Clinical Postings at We Care Multi-Speciality Hospital

Theoretical learning and simulation lab practice in this department are directly complemented by clinical rotations at our attached parent hospital, We Care Multi-Speciality Hospital. Students actively interact with patients, participate in morning clinical rounds, and observe complex cases under senior nursing supervisors.
